Plato is quoted as saying "They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth". An enemy of public justice according to Shakespeare said "First lets kill all the lawyers".
It is unfortunate, though it runs through human nature, that we often don't like bad news even if it's the truth and we need to hear it. When our society is making serious mistakes following its own moral and constitutional precepts with respect to a portion of our socity, the comfortable thing is to wrap ourselves in a flag and assume all is well because we are not being treated fairly. I ask each and everyone of you to listen to the story of attorney Bryan Stevenson that was delivered to me at the "TED conference" and what he believes to be an injustice in our country and his attempts to draw up quick awareness of the wrong that were are committing and how they might be righted. Lawyers "wake up calls" to corporate interests who profits above public and customer safety, notable examples are, Ford Motor Company, who some years ago elected 6 faulty gas tanks because it was cheaper to pay verdicts and McDonalds, who served scalding hot coffee to discourage customers from getting refills. Lawyers and the legal profession often times serve as the conscience of our "for profit and majority driven culture". That might not make them popular but they are critical, if you truly believe in the morals and principles we as Americans profess.
